Covid-19 will Not Slow Down the Mira Costa Drama/Tech Department - the Shows Must Go On!

Mira Costa High School Drama/Tech Department is excited about its upcoming fall productions - "Spoon River” and "The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” - presented in a virtual format. Faced with the challenge of distance learning, the Drama/Tech Department is ambitiously mounting two virtual productions for its fall season that will be available nation-wide for viewing November 6th-14th.

Spoon River, an original adaptation of Edgar Lee Masters’ “Spoon River Anthology,” directed by Jonathan Westerberg, is a haunting, post-mortem reflection on life, love, and death—all spoken from deceased townspeople of the fictional, 19th century hamlet of Spoon River, Illinois. A combination of live and filmed storytelling, student vocal and musical production, and original choreography, Spoon River imagines what the dead might say if they had nothing left to lose.

The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon by Don Zolidis, directed by Maddie Hutchinson, is a hilarious merging of dozens of different Brothers Grimm fairy tales that revisits and revises some of the most memorable moments of our favorite childhood stories. Zolidis adapted his original script for a virtual format so that the slap-stick hijinks, the high-octane pace, and the fairy-tale magic feel right at home on screen. Watch as characters struggle to overcome technology that goes awry and plot lines that are altered right before their eyes.

These virtual productions will bring the hard work of Costa’s Drama/Tech cast, crew, and production team to theatre audience in an innovative and exciting way. Log on to experience a new form of storytelling and help support the program’s efforts to keep theatre alive during these unprecedented times.

Tickets will go on sale through Broadway On Demand for The Brothers Grimm Spectculathon and ShowTix4U for Spoon River on Oct 15th. Tickets are priced at $11/per screen. Visit  www.miracostadramaboosters.org for ticket links.
