According to a recent report, between 2018 and March 2023 there have been 4,203 police pursuits in Los Angeles. That means, an average of 2 car chases per day.

Of those, 1,032 involved accidents that ended in death or injury, especially to innocent people.

This year alone, we have seen several devastating accidents as a result of police chases. Like the one on Roscoe Boulevard in Northridge when an SUV pursued by LAPD struck a sedan on Lindley Avenue and killed its driver, a 19-year-old student from Reseda.

Similarly, two Granada Hills men were killed when a stolen pickup truck crashed into their car as the driver fled from officers.

Not surprisingly, of the 4,203 police pursuits, after internal investigations, 609 pursuits were found to be out of policy or resulted in an administrative disapproval against the officers involved.

Northridge personal injury attorney Barry P. Goldberg is a frequent author on police pursuit cases and finding liability for serious injuries and death.

If you have been an innocent bystander injured as a result of a police pursuit, our office stands ready, willing and able to answer any and all questions about police pursuit injuries and death cases.
